The Operating Permits Section was established pursuant to Title V of the Federal Clean Air Act to protect health, safety and economic opportunities for Iowans by ensuring that larger industries comply with air quality regulations. Because air quality regulations placed upon industry can be quite complex, the "Title V Permit" is a single easy-to-follow document that provides each facility and the public with all applicable state and federal air quality regulations in a single state-issued permit.
Iowa's Operating Permit Program includes two types of operating permits: Title V and Small Source. Please read the Operating Permits - General Guidance " Frequently Asked Questions" document under
Title V Technical Guidance for a more detailed discussion of the eligibility requirements for each type of permit. Maps showing all active air quality permit applications and their review status as well as Title V emissions are available on the Environmental Services Dashboard.
