“Perkins Prairie” honors members of the Perkins family who have been landowners and farmers in Greene County, Iowa for four generations. In particular, Carroll T. Perkins, a former state legislator, wished to preserve a remnant tallgrass prairie, long managed by the family as a native grass pasture, as a legacy natural area. In 2014, the prairie was deeded to Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation to permanently protect and ensure long-term care of the land into the future.
This preserve is privately owned and not open to the public.
