ROAD CLOSED: The road at Ambrose A Call has been closed for the season. It will reopen in the spring once winter weather has ceased. Park users are still able to hike into the park. Do NOT block the gate to the entrance.

CAMPGROUND CLOSED: The campground at Ambrose A Call State Park is closed for the season. It will remain closed until April 15th, 2025 weather permitting. (Updated 11/20/24)

Modern facilities are shut down throughout the park.  This includes the shower buildings and modern restrooms.  The dump station is closed as well.  The frost free hydrants in the campgrounds will be on until November.  The cabins are still open and available to rent, and the electricity at the campground stays on also.   (posted 10/30/24)

Seasonal Dock Update: The West Boat Ramp and 100th St boat docks have been removed for the season. The East, Marina, and Williams Dr Boat Ramps docks are currently still in the water for use. This bulletin will be updated as the docks are removed for the season. (Posted 11/12/2024)

Modern restrooms throughout the park have been closed for the season. Pit latrines at Williams drive, Beach Boat Ramp, Disc Golf, and the Handicap Fishing Pier will remain open for off-season use.  Modern restrooms are expected to re-open on April 15th.  (Posted 10/15/24)

Black Hawk State Park shower building will be closed for the season on Oct. 15th. Hydrants and dumpstation will remain open , weather permitting. (Posted October 15, 2024)

Water is OFF in the North Equine campground due to a water leak. Hydrants on the full hookup sites are off to prevent freezing and breaking. They will reopen mid-March depending on the weather.

Fill and dump station hydrants and others remain on in the Beach and South Campgrounds remain on for registered campers use. 11/25/24

Restroom and shower buildings in the park will be closed for the season October 16, 2024. Weather permitting, they will reopen April 16, 2025. Camping remains available in the off-season with pit vault toilets in each of the 3 campgrounds. Water hydrants and electricity also remain on. On Saturday January 4th and Sunday January 5th 2024, the park will be closed to the public for a antler less deer management hunt. The park will re-open to the public on Monday January 6th 2025. For more information please contact the park office at 641-842-6008.

Trails at Fort Defiance have been severely impacted by flood damage.  Most of the bridges are unsafe for use and multiple blockages have been identified.  Until repairs can be made, trails will be closed until further notice. (Posted 08/23/2024)

All Modern Restroom & Shower facilities in the campground and at the beach area have been closed for the season. Camping in the campground is still permitted thru December 15th, 2024. Pit Toilets are located in the middle of the campground and in picnic areas for winter use. One water hydrant is left on at the campground entrance for winter use. Electricity is on at the electrical pedestals during the winter. Winter rates are in effect. $20 for electric sites and $12 for tent sites. North Campground RESTROOMS: The north campground shower building will close for the season on 10/28/24.  All vault toilets in the park will remain open. RESTROOM CLOSURE: The south campground shower building and flush toilets are now closed for the season. The modern restroom facility at the main boat ramp is closed as well.  The  north campground shower building will remain open weather permitting until late October. RESTROOM CLOSURE: The shower building has been shut down for the winter and will re-open in April. Frost free hydrants and electricity is still available in the winter months. WINTER SEASON FACILITY UPDATE:  The campground is open to overnight camping and all campsites are reservable in advance.  Modern restrooms and shower facilites throughout the park are currently CLOSED.  The RV dump station and water hydrants in the campground will remian on until we experience a hard frost.  The campground will be completely closed from December 1, 2024 through February 28, 2025. PARK WATER SHUT OFF: This does not affect the campground. (The campground is open and has water available) Due to a water leak the water is shut off to the south side of the park. There is currently no water supplying the hydrant by the beach or the restroom near shelter #5. We have pit latrines available at both boat ramps, the picnic area, and at the dam. There is an ADA accessible portable toilet located at the top of the hill by the beach. (Posted 1/18/2024)

WATER SHUT OFF: All restrooms and showers in the campground have been turned on for the season. The dump station tower and nonelectric campground hydrants are also off for the season.  Shelter #5 bathroom and the beach hydrant will remain off due to a water leak. (Posted 10/29/2024)

Request to be notified when Lake Keomah Lodge, Shelters, and Beach reopen: The Lodge and Beach at Lake Keomah State Park are closed from August 1, 2024 - October 15, 2025, due to renovations.  Shelters are at a first come first serve availability during this time and are not reservable.  If the project starts later or is completed earlier than expected, DNR can notify you that the closure will be removed for the lodges and shelters. Lake Keomah is scheduled for a major reconstruction project.  This will improve water quality, provide better amenities for park users and increase structure for fishing.  In order for this project to begin the lake will be drained.  As a result, a drawdown will start after July 4, 2024. Project is scheduled to be completed by spring 2026. (Posted March 11, 2024)

Lake draw down for renovations will begin Tuesday, July 9th.  Project is scheduled to be completed by spring 2026.  During this project, Lake Keomah will remain open along with camping and its amenities.

Facilities closing due to the renovations include the Beach and Lodge.

Please keep out of the lake bed.  Conditions of dried silt give the appearance of solid ground, when in fact the soils are very soft.  These conditions could lead to entrapment, if you fall into these spots. (Posted 7/23/24)

Facilities: The modern restrooms/showers at Lake of Three Fires State Park are closed as of October 15th, 2024 for the winter. The RV dump station is open with no running water. Water hydrants and electric campsites will remain ON in the campground until November 1st. (Posted 10/16/2024)

WINTER SEASON FACILITY UPDATE:  The Canyon Drive is currently CLOSED to vehicle traffic due to hard freezing temperatures and icing of the low water crossings. Visitors are welcome to hike into the canyon at this time though and the easiest places to park and hike from are the Oak Woods Picnic Area near the canyon entrance gates, and the Flood Pole parking lot near the canyon exit gates. The campground is currently CLOSED until March 1, 2025. Modern restrooms and shower facilities throughout the park are currently CLOSED. The RV dump station and water hydrants are also CLOSED. There is one water hydrant on at the campground entrance. (This alert was updated on 12/12/2024)

2025 CONSTRUCTION IMPACTS - Starting March 1, 2025 demolition and reconstruction of the east campground restroom/shower building will occur. The project is expected to be completed by early July 2025, but hopefully much sooner. Campers and other visitors can expect increased construction traffic and noise during this timeframe. Contractors will be prohibited from working every Friday from 5:00pm through all day Saturday, weekly.

From late October through the winter months, park staff will be conducting prescribed fire resource management activities in Ledges State Park on days where the weather is favorable. Be advised you may encounter delays in reaching certain parts of the park when a prescribed fire is being conducted. Signs will be posted along roadways adjacent to any fire activity. Lewis and Clark State Park: On October 15th, 2024 water will become unavailable throughout Lewis and Clark State Park including the shower building, full hookup sites, and hydrants. Water will become available again at the start of the 2025 recreation season. (Posted 7/25/24)

Lewis and Clark State Park Visitor Center and Beach Shelter: The Visitor Center and beach shelter at Lewis and Clark State Park will be closed to the public after Labor Day, 9/2/2024. (Posted 7/25/24)

Banquet Room Closure: Reservations for the Banquet Room will be unavailable beginning in 2023 for repairs and updates. The Banquet Room will be closed for reservations until further notice. The caves in the park are Closed every year from October 15th until April 15th as they server as a hibernaculum for overwintering bats. 

The Caves Closed on October 15th 2024 for the winter due to Bat Hibernation. You may still hike the trails but cannot enter the caves. They will reopen on April 15h 2025 (Posted 10/16/2024).

McIntosh Woods campground will be closing for the winter November 15, 2024. It will be reopened April 2025.

Effective: January 6th, 2025 until February 7th, 2025, The Sherburne Cabin at Springbrook State Park will be closed for maintenance and renovation of the upstairs bedrooms, bathroom, and living room. (Posted 11/01/2024)

Effective Friday, November 22, 2024, the Lakeview Campground will be closed for the season. Camping is still open at the Albany Equestrian Campground. Lakeview will be closed until April 15, 2025.

Rental Facility Closure: All of the cabins, the lodge, and the Overlook shelter will not be accepting reservations from April 1 - July 10, 2025 due to a waterline project.  (Posted May 8, 2024)

FIRST DAY HIKE:  Wildcat Den State Park will be having a Self Guided Hike on January 1st, 2025.  The start point will be the Punchbowl Trailhead, located just to the East of the Upper Picnic Area Shelter, 3489 State Park Rd., Muscatine, IA 52761.  The 1.3-mile hike will follow the Punch Bowl trail through the Devil's Punch Bowl. The hike will then follow the Lower Picnic Area Trail along Pine Creek, past Steamboat Rock, and then loop back up the hill to the shelter. The gravel/dirt trail will have steep, possibly slick, terrain and stairs in several spots.  The route will be marked and Trail Maps can be found in one of the Map boxes, located at all the Trailheads.  Feel free to participate at your leisure, or as weather permits, and please share photos if you can to wildcat_den@dnr.iowa.gov.  If you have questions, please call the Park Office, at 563-263-4337.  (Posted 12/16/2024)

WINTER ROAD CLOSURE:  The through State Park Rd, from the Upper Picnic Area Shelter to the Lower Picnic Area Road, is closed for the winter.  It will reopen sometime in Spring 2025.  Visitors can still access the Park from the New Era Rd. entrance and the Verde Ave. entrance.  (Posted 12/2/2024)
