The Cody Shooting Complex is located at 30245 220th Avenue in Long Grove, IA, just west of McCausland, Iowa, off County Road F33 (300th St.). It is on 16.8 acres of primarily agricultural land with a small pond and wooded area on the property's eastern side. The Cody Shooting Complex, formerly known as DLS Gun Club, and associated property was donated to the Iowa DNR in 2016.
The property has been renovated over the past two years. Phase I of construction is anticipated to be completed late this fall. The fully staffed facility will open to the public at that time for recreational shooting opportunities. Phase 2 of construction will begin later in 2025. It will include the addition of an archery range along with a classroom and registration building. We anticipate the final phase of construction to be completed by December 2026. Scott County Conservation, in partnership with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, will operate and maintain the new facility.
Roger Kean, Director of Scott County Conservation, explains, "The Scott County Conservation Board is extremely excited to partner with the Iowa DNR to open a much-needed and long-anticipated shooting range in our county. This is just one more example of our two agencies working together to offer this new amenity for the public to enjoy."
The existing Princeton Shooting Range, located in the Princeton Wildlife Management Area, will permanently close on December 2, 2024. At that time, recreational shooting will no longer be allowed, and the area will be restored and open to public hunting.
