DES MOINES — Interns helped divert almost 21 tons of hazardous waste from the landfill and saved more than 13 million of gallons of water, a result of their environmental improvement recommendations for Iowa companies this summer.

Upper-level college and university students work on-site at Iowa companies for 12- or 24-week paid internships to research solutions and implement pollution prevention strategies that will increase efficiency, reduce costs and help meet companies’ environmental goals.
