JOHNSTON, Iowa – The Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Johnston-Grimes Metropolitan Fire Department and Polk County Health Department will be available on Wednesday, May 22 at 10 a.m. at the Lakeview Boat Ramp, located off NW Beaver Drive to provide water safety tips for Iowans heading into the Memorial Day weekend.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources’ (DNR) spring fish spawning season is over and Iowa’s two walleye hatcheries are filled to capacity. Netting crews collected enough walleye to produce 1,082 quarts of walleye eggs at the Spirit Lake hatchery and 963 quarts at the Rathbun hatchery.

It’s been nearly eight years since the Derecho blew through Benton County, but the impact of that storm on Dudgeon Lake Wildlife Area is still easily visible off Hwy. 150. The popular 1,800-acre public area on the north edge of Vinton was in the path of the powerful storm packing 110-130 mile per hour winds, knocking down buildings, powerlines and trees on July 11, 2011.

DES MOINES -- The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is providing flexibility on some asbestos requirements while still protecting public health in flood damaged areas. Working with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the DNR is reducing some asbestos reporting deadlines and providing options for asbestos inspections for renovation projects.

SRF to Increase Final Disbursement Withholding in State Fiscal Year 2020

The amount withheld until receipt of final documentation on State Revolving Fund (SRF) construction loans will change in the next state fiscal year (SFY). Currently all projects, regardless of the loan amount, are subject to a $5,000 withholding per loan. Beginning in SFY 2020, all loans executed on or after July 1, 2019 will fall under the new withholding structure.
