DNR releases latest draft of 303d impaired waters list

DES MOINES -- The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is seeking public comment on the newly released draft impaired waters list. Data released by the Iowa DNR today shows 48 impairments are recommended to be removed from the 2020 303d impairment list, once the removals are approved by the EPA.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will hold a public open house on March 8, at 6 p.m. at Pin Oak Lodge, 45996 State Hwy. 14, south of Chariton, to discuss the history of the Wolf Hollow Wildlife Area and the proposed forest wildlife stewardship plan developed specifically for the area.

SPIRIT LAKE – The walleye fishing season on Spirit, East and West Okoboji lakes is open through Feb. 14.  It will close after that date and reopens on May 7. These are the only Iowa lakes that have a closed season for walleye.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) released between 1,000 to 2,000 rainbow trout at  Moorland Pond (Fort Dodge) and Big Lake (Council Bluffs) as part of its cool weather trout program that brings trout to areas that cannot support them during the summer.

Last year, more than 7,100 Iowa taxpayers helped boost wildlife conservation with donations to the Fish and Wildlife Fund on their state tax form. The number of people donating has continually declined and represents about 0.5 percent of total taxpayers in Iowa.
