Excitement and pride echoed through the Iowa Great Lakes fisheries netting crew last week. “It is amazing that this male musky is alive and doing well in West Okoboji Lake 25 years later,” said Joe Larscheid, chief of the Iowa DNR’s Fisheries Bureau.

Although pond plant growth is not exactly the same each year; if you had problems using your pond last year, chances are that similar problems will exist this year. A healthy pond needs aquatic plant habitat, but too much of a good thing can inhibit the pond’s use and cause imbalances in the fish population.

Iowa’s proposed 2016-17 deer hunting seasons were approved for public comment Thursday by the Natural Resource Commission of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. The proposal included a status quo county antlerless license quota and maintained the buck only restriction for select counties in northwest Iowa during early muzzleloader season and first shotgun season.

An estimated 1,300 students from 50 schools across Iowa will be in the Richard O. Jacobson Exhibition Center at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines on March 4-5, to participate in the 10th Annual Iowa Archery in the Schools Program State Tournament. This is the largest youth archery tournament in Iowa.
