Ledges “State of the Park” Address to be held in Boone

BOONE – Tens of thousands of campers, creek stompers, and other park patrons celebrated the centennial anniversary of Ledges State Park throughout 2024. To wrap up the year, staff from the park will host their annual open house at 6 p.m., Dec. 19 at Boone City Hall Auditorium, 923 Eighth Street, in Boone. A short presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m.

FORT ATKINSON-- The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will host an open house on March 22, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Fort Atkinson State Preserve​, 303 2nd Street, ​Fort Atkinson, to discuss upcoming repairs to several of the historic structures at the preserve. The open house will begin with a short presentation, with DNR staff on hand to answer questions. In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved to the Fort Atkinson Community Center​ at 303 3rd Street NW, Fort Atkinson.

DES MOINES ― According to the DNR’s legislatively mandated “2017 Iowa Greenhouse Gas Inventory Report” posted today, greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) in Iowa increased, primarily from increases in ammonia production and electricity generated from natural gas.

Windsor Heights ― Posted today, the DNR’s legislatively mandated “2016 Iowa Greenhouse Gas Inventory Report” shows greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) in Iowa decreased for the second year in a row, primarily from a decrease in power plant emissions.

The Air Quality Bureau has updated its “Stationary Fossil Fuel Combustion Calculation Tool” and “GHG Emissions Estimation Guidance” to reflect new global warming potentials (GWP). The revised documents should be used to calculate potential and actual greenhouse gas emissions from stationary sources for Air Quality permit applications.
