While many Iowans associate the start of the Iowa state park system with Backbone in northeast Iowa, they may be surprised to know that two state parks were originally dedicated in 1920. Lacey-Keosauqua State Park, nestled along a bend of the Des Moines River in Van Buren County, will celebrate its centennial on October 27

DES MOINES – In anticipation of the 100th anniversary of Iowa state parks in 2020, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources; the Iowa Arts Council, a division of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs; and Iowa State University are bringing 20 artists to 20 state parks this summer.

Iowa athletes from North Scott, Maquoketa, Pleasant Valley, Pella, Pella Christian, Ankeny Centennial, Gilbert, Solon, Oskaloosa and Easton Valley were frequent visitors to the winners podium at the Scholastic Action Sports Program (SASP) and the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) National Team Championships.
