FORT DODGE - More than eight inches of rain fell on Brushy Creek State Recreation Area in Webster County, Friday, August 28, impacting trails throughout the area.

“We are currently aware of three major culvert washouts on our trail system,” says Amber O’Neill, parks manager for the recreation area. “We are hoping that trails dry out significantly this week and we can complete the most urgent trail repairs, but unfortunately that may not be realistic, given the conditions.”

Visitors to Brushy Creek are asked to please be aware that trail conditions may not improve enough to make repairs and that likely the river trails will remain flooded through the weekend.  The 12-mile all-weather Lake Trail was also damaged, but it remains open and repairs should be completed by Wednesday.

There is no direct trail access to the all-weather trail from the South Equine Campground. The preferred and safest method is to take horses by trailer to the North Day Use Area; however horses are allowed to ride public roadways.

Closure information will be updated as conditions improve and staff is able to access more of the trail system. Closure information can be found at www.iowadnr.gov/parks

Individuals who wish to cancel existing camping reservations, can contact (877) 427-2757 or go online towww.iowastateparks.reserveamerica.com. The standard cancellation policy, 2 days prior to arrival, will apply.
