DES MOINES—Groundwater levels remain good across Iowa, while the National Drought Monitor shows an expanding area of dryness in southeast Iowa.
Precipitation has varied greatly in June, with the northeast third of the state receiving abundant rainfall while southern Iowa remained very dry. Rain totals varied from a trace at Bloomfield up to 7.01 inches near Nora Springs. The statewide average rainfall was 1.68 inches (normal for the period is 2.36 inches).
Temperatures across Iowa have averaged from 3 degrees above normal in far northeast Iowa to 10 degrees above normal in the southwest, with a statewide average of 6 degrees higher than normal for mid-June.
Streamflow conditions remain above normal for approximately one-third of the state. Streams in northwest and northeast Iowa continue to have streamflows much above normal.
