MANCHESTER – The Iowa Department of Natural Resources will continue to monitor a small tributary of Golden Branch northeast of Ryan in Delaware County after a tank with dilute herbicide fell into the stream Saturday morning.
The incident occurred about 10 a.m. when a truck carrying 1000 gallons of dilute Rowell herbicide hit a bridge abutment causing the tank to fall into the stream. Most of the herbicide was recovered from the tank before it was lifted from the stream by a crane.
No dead fish were found in the stream and live fish were observed in the area of the spill. The DNR will do additional monitoring to determine any environmental impacts to the stream.
The herbicide was owned by Innovative Ag Products of Oran. The incident is still under investigation by the DNR.
