BURLINGTON – The city of Burlington will be discharging untreated wastewater this week as the city connects to a new sanitary sewer.
The work is on Cascade combined sewer outlet 002, and is part of a large project to separate combined storm water and sanitary sewers in Burlington.
The wastewater discharge to the Mississippi River began about 10:45 a.m. Monday. The city expects to discharge about 700 gallons per minute while the contractor is working. The discharge will end at the end of the work day or when the connection is complete, starting about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, if needed.
The DNR will monitor and review the project.
