DES MOINES — Conditions remain favorable during September across the state with streamflow remaining above normal and no areas of drought.
September was unusually warm with temperatures averaging more than 5 degrees above normal. Precipitation amounts during September were highly variable but generally above normal over the southwest one-half of Iowa. The driest conditions were over the southeast and northeast corners of the state, as well portions of north central Iowa.
Torrential rains fell over western Pottawattamie and Mills County Sept. 23 and on over parts of central, southwest and south central Iowa Sept. 6. The statewide average precipitation was 4.08 inches ranking September as the 50th wettest in 143 years of records.
