Efforts to create the next generation of Iowa hunters will be the focus of the Hook and Hunt University during Iowa Pheasants Forever state convention, Jan. 29-30, at the Prairie Meadows Hotel and Casino in Altoona.

Hook and Hunt University begins at 3 p.m. on Jan. 30 and is the only portion of the state convention open to the general public. There is no fee to attend. Anyone who attends Hook and Hunt University will also have access to the vendor area to see the newest equipment and gear for pheasant hunting.

Hook and Hunt University will engage participants to discuss ways to combat the decline in hunter numbers and hunter participation, the long-term mentor efforts around the state and how to pass on the knowledge young hunters will need to continue on their own.

Anyone interested in joining Pheasants Forever or who are looking for a chapter in their area may contact Caroline Couch, Iowa outreach coordinator, at 515-608-0521 or by email at Caroline.Couch@dnr.iowa.gov.  Information on the state convention and Pheasants Forever is available online at http://iowapf.net/
