STORM LAKE – An unknown amount of diesel fuel spilled from the One Stop Shop in Storm Lake and has reached Poor Farm Creek, a tributary of the Raccoon River.

The spill was discovered this morning, but likely happened Monday evening. The tanks and lines at the facility were tested today and are not leaking. The source of the spill is under investigation but is likely to be from the overfilling of a vehicle or similar incident.

The city put out booms to recover as much fuel as possible, but high flow and turbulence in the stream limited the amount recovered.

It’s unknown how far the fuel had moved downstream by the time it was reported.

The DNR is investigating the cause of the spill and monitoring clean-up activities. The DNR will consider appropriate enforcement.
