Bondurant Man Injured Saturday While Deer Hunting

DES MOINES – A Bondurant man was injured by a gunshot wound while deer hunting Saturday in Guthrie County.

Shaymus Smith, 32, of Bondurant, was struck in the right leg by a shotgun slug fired from another member of his hunting party shortly after 2:30 p.m. approximately four miles north of Stuart. The wound was not considered life threatening having missed the bone and arteries. He was transported to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines where he was being treated.

It is believed Smith was hit by a shot fired at a running deer.Smith was out of sight from other members of his party due to dense cover.

The incident is still being investigated by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
