SIGOURNEY—A DNR specialist investigated a manure spill Wednesday night after a tanker rolled into a tributary of Bridge Creek northeast of Sigourney.
Brandon Buch of Buch Farms reported the spill about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.
DNR staff met with Buch on site at 4:30 p.m., finding the tanker had been righted, the stream dammed and about 6,000 gallons of manure remained in or had been recovered from the tanker. An estimated 500 to 1,000 gallons reached the creek where it was pumped up for land application. The Sigourney Fire Department assisted by flushing the stream above the dam.
After walking the creek, DNR staff concluded most manure was contained behind the dam and it appeared little manure traveled downstream to Bridge Creek.
DNR staff took water samples for analysis and are monitoring cleanup activities. They found no dead fish, and will consider appropriate enforcement action.
