JOHNSTON, Iowa – Last fall the Iowa Department of Natural Resources trout program’s community fisheries expanded its central Iowa stockings to Johnston. Join our community fishing biologist at 2 p.m. on Nov. 10 at Crown Point Community Center, 6300 Pioneer Parkway, to learn some trout fishing basics, then venture to Terra Lake to try your skills.
Bring your own fishing equipment if you have it; a limited number of rods and reels will be available to use. Terminal tackle will be provided. For more information or to register (required), go to www.register-ed.com/invite/5d94d84ea0b4f.
Anglers (age 16 and older) must have a valid fishing license and pay the trout fee to fish for or possess trout. The daily limit is five trout per licensed angler with a possession limit of 10. Children age 15 or younger can fish for trout with a properly licensed adult, but they must limit their combined catch to one daily limit. The child can buy a trout fee which will allow them to catch their own limit of five trout.
Terra Lake was stocked with rainbow trout on Oct. 24. Other central Iowa lakes stocked with trout last week include Banner Lake near Indianola and Kettlestone Common Ponds in Waukee. Lake Petocka in Bondurant and Ada Hayden Heritage Park Lake in Ames will also be stocked this fall. Check the 2019 fall community trout stocking schedule at www.iowadnr.gov/fishlocal for dates and details.
