The DNR is evaluating recent changes in sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions in Des Moines and Wapello Counties in the second annual report required by the federal SO2 Data Requirements Rule (DRR). The DRR requires an annual assessment of recent SO2 emissions in any area where air quality modeling of actual emissions provided the basis for designating the area attainment for the 2010 1-hour SO2 national ambient air quality standard (NAAQS).
The public is invited to review and submit comments on the report and new air quality modeling results documented in the report that will satisfy criteria to exempt Des Moines and Wapello Counties from future DRR reviews.
The report, due to EPA by July 1, is available on the Air Quality Bureau’s Public Participation page under Public Input. Written comments must be received by June 18, 2018, and may be sent to matthew.johnson@dnr.iowa.gov or to the address below. For questions please call Matthew at (515) 725-9554.
