MANSON - Leaks from a pump caused a wastewater discharge into East Cedar Creek in the northwest Iowa town of Manson Monday night.
Seals on the pump failed, causing the pumping station to flood and overflow. DNR staff confirmed the flow ended about 11 a.m. Tuesday after the city repaired the pump. An estimated 100,000 gallons of untreated wastewater flowed into the creek.
The DNR recommends keeping children and pets away from the creek for the next 24 to 48 hours.
DNR will consider appropriate enforcement action.
