EAGLE GROVE - Field staff from the DNR’s Mason City office investigated complaints of green water in a waterway about four miles south of Eagle Grove in Wright County on Wednesday.
Staff found a green color and elevated ammonia levels in a drainage ditch, but no dead fish. They traced the colored water upstream to a tile outlet and returned to the area Thursday to find the source of the polluted water.
The colored water extended about two miles downstream to the Boone River. DNR staff took water samples in the ditch and river to be tested in a laboratory, but field tests showed ammonia levels did not appear elevated in the river.
DNR will continue to investigate to find the source of the problem.
