The DNR is documenting significant reductions of sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions in Des Moines and Wapello Counties in the first annual report required by the federal SO2 Data Requirements Rule (DRR).  The DRR requires an annual assessment of recent SO2 emissions in any area designated attainment based on air quality modeling of actual emissions.

The public is invited to review and submit comments on the report and the DNR’s conclusions that additional modeling is unnecessary to determine that Des Moines and Wapello Counties continue to attain the 1-hour SO2 national ambient air quality standard (NAAQS).The report, due to EPA by July 1, is available on the Air Quality Bureau’s Stakeholder Involvement page under Public Input.

Written comments must be received by June 16 and may be sent to matthew.johnson@dnr.iowa.gov or at the address below.  For questions please call Matthew at (515) 725-9554.
