DES MOINES – The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has hired Alex Murphy as the Public Information Officer for the Department. Murphy began work at the DNR on March 10, 2017.

Murphy will serve as a point of contact for all media and public information needs relating to the Department of Natural Resources.

"We are excited to have Alex on board promoting the good work of our DNR staff," said DNR Director Chuck Gipp.

"I am thrilled for this amazing opportunity to continue to serve the great citizens of our state through the DNR," said Murphy. "I look forward to meeting everyone at DNR and sharing with the news media the great work that they do each day, all across the state, that impacts every Iowan's life in one way or another."

Murphy grew up in Baxter, Iowa, and earned his bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications from Grand View University. Before joining the DNR, Murphy worked for the Iowa Department of Public Safety as the Public Information Officer for the Department’s Investigative Operations. He also worked at KCCI-TV as a reporter, photojournalist and editor, and served as a Communications Specialist and Videographer for the Media Relations Department at Iowa State University. He resides in Des Moines.
