Green Valley State Park

Green Valley State Park in southwest Iowa is a popular destination for fishing and boating. The park is a family-friendly hub for camping, picnicking or any outdoor pursuit. Four lakes in the region -- Three Mile Lake, Twelve Mile Lake, Summit Lake and Green Valley Lake -- are located within 10 miles of each other and create a hub for lake recreation in southwest Iowa.

PLAN YOUR VISIT

Hike almost 10 miles of trails at Green Valley, winding through wetland areas around the fringes of the lake to woodlands and remnants of native prairie. Mountain biking is an option on the trails, which are a combination of pavement and roadways.

Fish for walleye, bluegill, channel catfish and more at Green Valley Lake. Two ADA accessible fishing piers are available on the north and south shorelines.

Boat in the waters of Green Valley Lake or swim at the sandy beach area. Boats must operate at “no-wake” speeds and cannot be operated at more than 5 mph within 100 feet of the shore or within 50 feet of another craft or person. In-board motors are not allowed on the lake, including jet skis and jet boats. Water skiing is allowed in a designated area and all water skiers must wear a U.S. Coast Guard approved life-jacket.

Stay overnight in one of three camping cabins or at the park’s campground. Camping cabins include a covered porch, electricity, a microwave and small refrigerator but do not have water or sanitary facilities. The campground offers electric and full hook-up sites, modern restrooms and showers and a trailer dump station. One-fourth of the campsites are available on a first-come, first-served basis and advance campsites reservations can be made online through the online reservation system for Green Valley State Park.

*High Lake Outdoor Alliance offers firewood sales to campers and from April 1 to October 31 when the campground host is available.

Reserve one of two open shelters for an outdoor gathering during your visit. Scenic picnic areas can be found throughout the park and the shelter can be reserved through the online reservation system for Green Valley State Park.
