This quarry pond provides fishing for largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie and channel catfish. The low dose rotenone application in 2013 was successful to remove gizzard shad from the population and thin the bluegills. A 2014 fishery survey sampled 8-inch black crappie, channel catfish up to 22-inches, and good numbers of 11- to 16- inch bass. Rough fish, including common carp and river carp suckers, are present and interfere with the fishery.(2015)

Iowa-Caught Fish Are Safe to Eat, In Almost All Cases

The vast majority of Iowa’s streams, rivers and lakes offer safe and high-quality fish that pose little or no threat to human health if consumed. Some limitations may apply for young children and pregnant women. Here’s a Fish Consumption Fact Sheet from the Iowa DNR and the Iowa Dept. of Public Health for more information.
