Iowa Department of Natural Resources to install fish barrier at Brushy Creek Lake spillway

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will install a physical fish barrier on the Brushy Creek Lake spillway this summer to reduce walleye and muskellunge loss during flood events. The lake will be lowered approximately 4 feet for the next two months to allow for construction. The West ramp will still be usable, even after the lake level has been lowered.

Lehigh, Iowa - The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is hosting a public meeting to discuss upcoming activities at Dolliver State Park and Brushy Creek State Recreation Area for the 2019 season. The meeting will be held in Center Lodge at Dolliver State Park, beginning 6 p.m., on April 29.

Fish Barrier Research Project Begins at Big Creek Lake & Brushy Creek Lake Spillways

A physical fish barrier fence, made of horizontal bars, was installed in 2012 at the Big Creek spillway to reduce adult walleye and muskellunge escapement from Big Creek Lake. The barrier was a collaborative project between the Central Iowa Anglers, Recycled Fish, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
