For over 50 years the lake at Central Park has been the hub of Jones County Conservation’s recreational opportunities.  Located in the heart of Jones County, residents have benefited from its presence by swimming, fishing, paddling or strolling along its shoreline, in addition to its annual $7.84 million positive economic impact.

CLARION, Iowa - Staff with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will be on hand on July 6, from 3:30-6:30 p.m., at the Wright County Conservation Board shelter on the north end of Lake Cornelia for an informal meeting to talk about the current state of Elm Lake and potential future management plans.

Road paving construction will begin next week at Lost Grove Lake located east of Eldridge.  The south entrance road leading to Backcast Bay Shoreline Access Area (located near the corner of 250th Street and 230th Avenue) will close on June 6 and the entrance road leading to the Old Red Barn Boat Ramp (formerly the middle boat ramp; also located near the corner of 250th Street and 230th  Avenue) will close on June 8.

After a $12 million rehab of its lake, watershed and public facilities, Lake Darling State Park in southeast Iowa officially reopened Sept. 17, 2014. The 66-year-old park and lake are now among the state’s most picturesque recreation areas. Namesake “Ding” Darling must be smiling.

Spirit Lake – The late night, week-long annual walleye collection is underway at Rathbun Lake, Storm Lake, Clear Lake and the Iowa Great Lakes. Crews with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources’ Fisheries Bureau have been setting gillnets at night looking for walleyes ready to spawn.

A physical fish barrier fence, made of horizontal bars, was installed in 2012 at the Big Creek spillway to reduce adult walleye and muskellunge escapement from Big Creek Lake. The barrier was a collaborative project between the Central Iowa Anglers, Recycled Fish, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

PALO, Iowa – The lake restoration project at the Pleasant Creek Recreation Area scheduled to begin this winter has been postponed to April 2016 due to an unforeseen problem with the main gate valve in the dam requiring it to be replaced before the project can begin.
