Driving slowly along the two-track, generously labeled “340th Street” by Google Maps, Anna Buckardt Thomas has her windows down and is identifying each bird by its call. “House wren, red-winged blackbird, killdeer, goldfinch, catbird, flicker, cardinal, Eurasian tree sparrow, common yellowthroat,” the state avian ecologist said.

A four-year shoreline restoration project at Silver Lake, in Dickinson County, is entering its final phase, where contractors will continue clearing the honeysuckle, Chinese elm and autumn olive understory next to the lake, then replace it with native prairie to keep the soil in place.

CLEAR LAKE - The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) recently discovered that Eurasian watermilfoil has spread in Clear Lake in Cerro Gordo County. A small area was originally found last fall east of the McIntosh Beach and treated this May. A larger area was found last week near Farmer’s Beach.

DES MOINES--A boil advisory has been issued for the City of Granger in Polk/Dallas County following a water pressure loss at their water towers. They are in the process of refilling water towers and flushing the system.
