Please join us on January 5, 2023, to review and provide comment on the draft Air Quality Bureau budget for the next state fiscal year (July 2023 - June 2024). This is the annual fee advisory group meetings for the asbestos, construction permit, and operating permit advisory groups and includes a discussion about fees for both major and minor sources.

There will be no changes in Air Quality Bureau fees for 2021 fiscal year, which begins on July 1, 2020 and ends on June 30, 2021. Fees are assessed for asbestos demolition notifications, asbestos renovation notifications, applications for new source review construction permits, applications for initial and renewal Title V operating permits, and Title V emissions.

DES MOINES – The DNR Derelict Building Grant Program will award grants to 13 small, rural Iowa communities to help deconstruct or renovate abandoned structures, remove asbestos and limit construction and demolition materials going to the landfill.

DES MOINES -- The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is providing flexibility on some asbestos requirements while still protecting public health in flood damaged areas. Working with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the DNR is reducing some asbestos reporting deadlines and providing options for asbestos inspections for renovation projects.

The Air Quality Bureau is moving the meetings for the Fee Advisory Groups from January 11 to February 8 to allow for more time to gather information on the draft budget.  Please join us on February 8 to review and provide comment on the draft Air Quality Bureau budget for the next state fiscal year.

The Environmental Protection Commission adopted rules and a fee schedule for asbestos notification fees and application fees for construction and operating permits during the December 15 meeting. The rules were adopted and filed emergency after notice, meaning that they will become effective today. The new fees included on the fee schedule will become effective on January 15, 2016.

The Department conducted advisory group meetings with stakeholders in June and July 2015 to develop the rules and fee types and amounts to implement Senate File 488. Stakeholders continued to provide comments during the informal comment period that has been on-going since the meetings. The Department has revised the draft fee rules to incorporate changes based on the comments provided by stakeholders.
