DES MOINES -- The Environmental Protection Commission has amended Chapter 61 to streamline and clarify the process of obtaining Section 401 Water Quality Certification (certification) of federal permits and licenses.

DES MOINES -- The Environmental Protection Commission is proposing to amend Chapter 61 to streamline the process by which the Iowa Department of Natural Resources certifies that each United States Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) nationwide or regional Federal Water Pollution Control Act Section 404 permit (Corps’ nationwide or regional permit) meets Iowa’s water quality standards.

Phyllis Kimball, of Creston, enrolled 160 acres in CRP pollinator mix in Ringgold County. Kimball had been away from the farm for more than two decades but returned to manage the day to day operations after an agreement with a local farmer was voided. What she found upon returning was failing terraces and trees that had taken over the valley. She stopped on the gravel road and cried at seeing what had happened to her land.

Des Moines – Iowa hunters have been using the interactive Iowa hunting atlas to find new places to go hunting. The hunting atlas features more than 600,000 acres of public hunting land that is owned by the state, county or federal governments. It’s available online.

The Department conducted advisory group meetings with stakeholders in June and July 2015 to develop the rules and fee types and amounts to implement Senate File 488. Stakeholders continued to provide comments during the informal comment period that has been on-going since the meetings. The Department has revised the draft fee rules to incorporate changes based on the comments provided by stakeholders.
