Two Wild Deer Test Positive for Chronic Wasting Disease in Allamakee County

DES MOINES – Two wild deer harvested in Allamakee County during the recent hunting season have been confirmed positive for chronic wasting disease (CWD), marking the third year in a row the disease has been confirmed in a wild Iowa deer, all in Allamakee County.

The Iowa DNR’s wildlife staff will be collecting tissue samples during Iowa’s shotgun deer seasons to test for the presence of Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) in Iowa’s wild deer herd.

Elk Shot In Monona County Sunday

An elk of unknown origin in west central Iowa was shot at the request of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Sunday morning to protect the Iowa deer herd and domestic livestock from the potential impacts of chronic wasting disease and other diseases.

BLOOMFIELD – A meeting to update residents on the latest news regarding chronic wasting disease (CWD) and to coordinate assistance from area hunters in collecting samples has been scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 13th at the Davis County Courthouse in Bloomfield.
