Wapello State Park, in southeast Iowa’s Davis County, will open its newly renovated campground on Sept. 30, just in time for the fall camping season.

The new area overlooks the lake and campers can look forward to 47 reconstructed electric campsites, with 13 full hook-ups.  All new sites have 50, 30 and 20 amp service.  Each new camping pad has an extended living space, giving campers a dry level area for grills, tables and chairs.

“We are especially grateful to our Friends of Lake Wapello,” says Chad Horn, DNR park ranger. “They raised $25,000 to put towards this project, allowing us to put the finishing touches on this renovation. The money raised was used for a new registration building, fire rings, campsite posts and trees for reforestation.”

Reservations can be made now for 70 percent of the new electric campsites through the state park reservation system at http://iowastateparks.reserveamerica.com/ or by calling 877-427-2757. The remaining electric sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Lake Wapello also has 23 non-electric sites and 50 percent can be reserved online.
