PLEASANTVILLE – A boil advisory for a portion of Pleasantville in Marion County has been issued after a water main break late Thursday evening.
The portion of Pleasantville affected is along West Pleasant Street, Linden Street and West and North Clark Streets.
Due to the potential for bacterial contamination, it is being recommended that the water in the affected area be boiled before being used for drinking or cooking or that an alternative source such as bottled water be used until further notice.
A drop in water pressure occurred when the water main broke and repairs were being made. A drop in water pressure can allow bacteria to enter the system. The water main was repaired late Thursday night.
Two sets of water samples will be taken to determine whether the water is safe and when the advisory can be lifted.
Residents in the affected area of Pleasantville are advised to bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water. The water may be used for bathing and other similar purposes.
