LU VERNE – A boil advisory for the city of Lu Verne, on the Kossuth-Humboldt county line, has been issued due to maintenance work on the water tower.

The city will be disinfecting the water after maintenance activities Tuesday. However, they are asking residents to boil water or use bottled water until laboratory results from two water samples, collected 24 hours apart, come back clear of bacteria.

Due to the potential for bacterial contamination, the city and DNR recommend residents boil water used for drinking, teeth brushing, ice or cooking, or use bottled water.

Bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water. Tap water may be used for bathing and other similar purposes.

General guidelines on ways to lessen the risk of infection by microbes are available from the EPA Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 800-426-4791.
