Four Great Spring Cabin Getaways in Iowa State Parks

4 Great Spring Cabin Getaways in Iowa State Parks | Iowa DNRFrom now until mid-May, state park cabins can be rented for two-day minimums (instead of the week-long requirement during the summer season). Shake off the winter blues by renting a cabin for a couple of days. Take a spring hike or bike ride. Grab some binoculars and do a little wildlife watching. Birding is great during this peak migration time. And, of course, there is always fishing – spring offers some of the best!

Here are four state parks with cabins currently available this spring:

Black Hawk State Park
Lake View, Sac County, northwestern Iowa

The original CCC ranger residence, remodeled into a year-round, fully furnished four-bedroom cabin, sleeps eight comfortably. As the water warms, fishing will pick up on the 729-acre Black Hawk Lake, the southernmost glacial lake in the United States. Bicyclists can catch the Sauk Rail Trail outside the park and ride the 33-mile route to Swan Lake State Park (managed by Carroll County)

Lake Wapello State Park, often called the “country club” of Iowa’s state parks, is a popular location for hiking and fishing. The park offers 13 family cabins located among quiet wooded hillsides. Twelve of the cabins sleep four people and one sleeps six.

Getaway in a cabin at Nine Eagles State ParkNine Eagles State Park
Davis City, Davis County, southeast Iowa

Nine Eagles State Park is a hidden gem of southern Iowa. The rugged oak hills and valleys make Nine Eagles an incredibly scenic park. Besides good fishing on the 64-acre lake, visitors will find nine miles of hiking trails, including six miles available to equestrians. The park offers one cabin located near the lake that sleeps four.

Make a weekend getaway to Palisades-Kepler State Park | Iowa DNRPalisades-Kepler State Park
Mount Vernon, Linn County, northeast Iowa

Palisades-Kepler is located on the Cedar River with nearly six miles of trails through the park’s dramatic river terrain. The woodland bluffs and deep ravines host a variety of spring wildflowers and wildlife, and the Cedar River holds a wide array of fish species for the anxious spring angler. The park has four modern cabins, each sleeping four people.
