State Champions named in Collegiate Trap, Skeet, Sporting Clays, and Super Sporting Clays

More than 160 athletes from 13 Iowa colleges competed in the 2023 Iowa Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) Collegiate Championships in Trap, Skeet, Sporting Clays, and Super Sporting Clays on Oct. 21-22, at the New Pioneer Gun Club, in Waukee.

Iowa Western Community College, Hawkeye Redtails, and each won Team State Collegiate Championships over the weekend. Iowa Western took home first place team in Sporting Clays, Super Sporting and Skeet, while the Hawkeye Redtails Sports Shooting Team won the Trap Championship. Iowa Western Shotgun Sports also won the Team High Over All Championship, which combines team scores from all four events.

Colton Crooks took the top men’s spot in American Singles Trap, Skeet, and Sporting Clays, while Tyler Uhri of Iowa Western Shotgun Sports won the Men’s Super Sporting event. For the collegiate ladies, Jenna Smith of the Southeastern Blackhawks Sports Shooting, won the American Trap event, Abby Johnson of Iowa Western Shotgun Sports, won the skeet event, Emma Chapin of Iowa Central Community College, won the Sporting Clays event, and Haley Starmer, of Hawkeye RedTails Sports Shooting, won the Super Sporting event.
