MYSTIC – Residents in the city of Mystic are under a boil advisory following a water main break.

While repairs are made, the entire town is without water pressure. After restoring pressure, the city will flush the system and collect water samples for testing.

The city and DNR recommend residents boil their water until testing shows water is safe to drink. Water pipe breaks and pressure losses can allow bacteria to enter the system.

Residents should bring all water used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth or preparing food to a boil, let it boil for one minute and let it cool before using. Or, use bottled water. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water. Residents can use tap water for bathing and similar purposes.

Rathbun Rural Water Association provides water to the city.
