PLEASANT HILL - Iowa DNR field staff are investigating a fish kill that began in Camp Creek east of Pleasant Hill and about five miles north of Runnells in Polk County.
An unknown amount of fungicide spilled from a Lanus Cooperative vehicle Monday afternoon near the intersection of state Highways 163 and 316. Some of it reached Camp Creek where DNR staff are seeing dead minnows and chubs downstream of the spill site.
DNR staff will have more information on the extent of the fish kill and quantities of fungicide involved later today. They are working with Landus staff to determine if they can prevent the fungicide from reaching the Des Moines River.
