CLIVE - Sunday, the city of Clive’s fire department investigated a sheen on Walnut Creek, tracing it upstream to a storm drain just west of the Pilot Travel Center near Douglas Avenue and Interstate 35/80 in Urbandale.
The fire department placed absorbent booms near a low-lying area to prevent additional material from entering the creek.
DNR staff investigated the site Monday, agreeing that the sheen smelled like diesel fuel, but it did not look fresh and there is no ongoing spill.
Staff from Clive, Urbandale, and DNR met with the truck stop manager Monday, ruling out several sources of the fuel. DNR will return to investigate further on Tuesday.
