A new camping cabin is available for rent at Stone State Park in Sioux City. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned for Tuesday, June 20 at 5:30 p.m.
The stone building, originally constructed in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), was recently repurposed into a camping cabin that sleeps four, has heating and air conditioning, and a small kitchenette. The cabin is located in the campground near a modern restroom and shower building.
The remodeling effort was funded jointly by the Friends of Stone Park, Missouri River Historical Development, and the Iowa DNR. Although some of the specialized work was contracted, Friends of Stone Park volunteers stained the wood, painted, installed windows, doors, and flooring, and completed the exterior landscaping.
The new cabin will be available to rent beginning June 22 for two-night minimum stays by contacting the park ranger at 712-255-4698. The cabin will be available to rent online later this summer. The rental fee is $35 per night. Two other camping cabins are currently online and available for rent at Stone State Park through the state park reservations system at iowastateparks.reserveamerica.com.
