DES MOINES– The Iowa DNR has chosen Jason Marcel to lead the agency’s Field Services and Compliance Bureau, which includes many frontline DNR staffers who explain scientific, legal and regulatory details that protect Iowa’s air, land and waters.

For the last 11 years, Marcel has supervised the DNR’s Air Quality Emissions Inventory and Support section. He has 19 years of service with the DNR overall.

“Jason's career demonstrates his ability to help citizens, business and industry achieve compliance with some of Iowa's most complex environmental programs,” said Bill Ehm, head of DNR environmental services.

Marcel has collaborated with stakeholders to improve processes and reduce regulatory burdens while maintaining environmental protection. He plans to explore how smart technology, continuing process improvements, and collaborative opportunities can assist staff as they coach for compliance, providing the technical assistance needed to maintain the social and economic benefits of a high quality environment.

Marcel holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Management Systems Science with a minor in Chemistry from Louisiana State University. He replaces long-time bureau chief Barb Lynch, who retired in December after 38 years of service. Marcel will begin his new duties March 10.
