Hunting seasons will begin closing soon in early January. Pheasant, archery turkey and deer seasons, and late muzzleloader deer season close on Jan. 10. Goose seasons start closing first in the north zone on Jan. 13, followed by the central zone on Jan. 20, and the south zone on Jan. 27.

Number of donors to the Chickadee Check-off continues to decline

Last year, more than 6,200 Iowa taxpayers helped wildlife conservation with donations to the Fish and Wildlife Fund on their state tax form, which is nearly 1,000 fewer than who donated in 2020.  and represents about 0.4 percent of total taxpayers in Iowa.

Comment period extended to Oct. 21 for AFO rule revisions

The DNR is extending the deadline for providing informal comment to proposed rules for animal feeding operations in Iowa. The new deadline is October 21, 2022.

Spring snow goose hunting season open through May 1

The snow goose migration is underway and with it, the opportunity for waterfowl hunters to participate in the special conservation order allowing hunting of light geese in Iowa through May 1.

Opportunity for Comment on Proposed Modeling Determination (Form MD) Update

The DNR is proposing an update to the method used to determine when a dispersion modeling analysis will be needed for construction permitting projects at portable plants.  Form MD has been updated to incorporate the proposed change.

DNR to discuss construction projects at public meeting

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will host an informational meeting on Tuesday, January 23, from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at the Lakeside Lab Mahan Hall in Wahpeton, IA to discuss construction plans in the Gull Point State Park Complex.

Chickadee Tax Check-Off Seeking Rise in Donations on 2015 Tax Forms

Last year, roughly 7,500 out of 1.5 million Iowa taxpayers helped boost wildlife conservation with donations to the Fish and Wildlife Fund on their state tax form. This marks the first year in the last five where contributions and the number of contributors to the Fish and Wildlife fund have gone down. Donations to all the state tax form check-offs were down on 2014 returns.

New Title V Application Completeness Review Checklist

The DNR has a new air quality operating (Title V) permit application form – Completeness Review Checklist. The new Completeness Review Checklist is an optional tool that facilities and consultants may use when filling out a Title V permit application.

New Title V EZ Mod Permit Application Form

The DNR has a new air quality operating (Title V) permit application form – EZ Mod Form. The new EZ Mod Form is an optional alternative to the standard Title V application forms to request a minor Title V permit modification. To reduce submitting duplicate information, this form incorporates data elements from air construction permit applications and final issued air construction permits.
