Environmental Protection Commission Meets at State Capitol Aug 10

DES MOINES – Contracts and proposed rule revisions are scheduled for the Aug. 10 Environmental Protection Commission meeting.

Commissioners will meet a week early and a day later than usual -- meeting at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 10, in Room 116 of the Iowa State Capitol, 1007 E. Grand Avenue in Des Moines.

Watershed project and staffing contracts are up for commission approval, along with a contract for map review.

DNR is asking commissioners to approve a rule change allowing yard waste disposal at landfills under special conditions. 

Commissioners will also be asked to update criteria used to evaluate funding assistance applications for solid waste planning areas and facilities.

The meeting is open to the public and public participation is scheduled after the monthly reports. Or, people may submit written comments to the commission by mail or email to Jerah Sheets, Jerah.Sheets@dnr.iowa.gov before the meeting.

At 1 p.m., commissioners have an appointment to discuss a referral of Gary Eggers of Stacyville to the Attorney General for solid waste and water quality violations. At 2:30 p.m., commissioners will leave for a 3 p.m. tour of the DNR Building at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. The public is welcome to attend, but must make their own transportation arrangements.
